Spring Bank Holiday
Please note that the surgery will be closed on Monday, May 27th for the Spring Bank Holiday. See 'Opening Times' > 'when we are closed' for advice on where you can get urgent help on that day.
New system for booking urgent appointments
Please note from the 1st April you will see a difference how you access urgent on the day appointments. Our Receptionists have been asked to gather more information from patients regarding the nature of their urgent need for an appointment. This is then passed to our Advanced nurse practitioner who will triage requests for on the day appointments. You will initially be called back then if appropriate offered an appointment to come in.
Routine appointments will be booked in the same way, our average wait time for a routine appointment is 6/7days which is better than the national average of 14days.
We hope you as patients will feel the benefit of this new system enabling us to see those most clinically in need in a timely manner.
Statement regarding Leybourne Surgery and Westbourne Medical Centre
The partners at Westbourne Medical Centre and Leybourne Surgery are pleased to announce a merger of the two practices; this merger will take effect on 01 April 2019.
Dr Gordon Turner will continue as a partner at Leybourne Surgery and be joined by Dr R Schuster Bruce, Dr L Brad, Dr S Morgan, Dr G Edwards, Dr K Gallimore, Dr J Myles and Dr N Raha. The partnership at Westbourne Medical Centre will remain unchanged.
We will continue to operate from both the Westbourne and Leybourne practices. We do not anticipate patients seeing any wholesale changes being made although we are planning to make the most of our new partnership by sharing our workforce and providing a more flexible skill mix offering at Leybourne Surgery. Both practices will continue to use SystmOne as the common clinical system.
This merger will help create more resilient and sustainable practices with exciting opportunities to share best practice and skilled workforce, including the recruitment of locally and nationally trained GPs and other allied health professionals.
You do not need to take any action and may continue to access health care services in the usual way. Please look out for further information in the practice and on our practice website. We will make available a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) as the merger develops and questions are asked.
We are committed to continue providing safe, effective, high quality health care for patients and we see this move as a significant and essential step towards building health care resilience and creating sustainable health care services that serve the local populations around Westbourne and Leybourne Surgery.
Working as a larger group will support working with local providers in health care and we will be better able to develop new and better ways of providing the best possible care for our patients and to keep patients out of hospital and treated in or closer to their home.
