Winton Health Centre
The partnerships at Westbourne Medical Centre, Denmark Road Medical Centre and Leybourne Surgery (as members of the Poole Bay & Bournemouth Primary Care Network) have agreed with the Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to takeover Winton Health Centre, formerly Alma Medical Centre, with effect from 13 September.
There have been rumours and much speculation in recent times regarding the future of Alma Medical Centre and the lack of financial investment in the practice for a considerable period of time has unfortunately helped fuel some of that misinformation.
In partnership with the CCG, we have agreed a long-term plan that ensures there is resilience and sustainability built around Winton Health Centre to preserve its existence and ability to provide good quality health care for the local community.
The existing staff will transfer to the new Winton Health Centre partnership with all employment rights protected under the TUPE Regulations.
Patients registered with Winton Health Centre are set to benefit from a refurbishment of the practice over the coming months. In order to complete the work, the practice will temporarily shut on September 13 and re-open on 01 October.
During the downtime, patients at Winton Health Centre will be offered appointments at either Westbourne Medical Centre, Denmark Road Medical Centre or Leybourne Surgery with transport provided should there be a medical need.
A significant amount of planning has gone into the transfer of partnership and the refurbishment at Winton Health Centre to minimise any inconvenience. Contingency plans are in place to ensure all usual services will be maintained for patients registered at Westbourne Medical Centre, Denmark Road Medical Centre and Leybourne Surgery and that nobody is compromised by this additional activity.
Whilst we hope that any inconvenience has been minimised as much as possible, should you experience any inconvenience in either making or attending an appointment as a direct consequence of the changes outlined above then please let us know by providing feedback to:
We recognise the strategic importance for having a well organised, good functioning practice at Winton Health Centre so this transfer of responsibility for delivery of health care at Winton Health Centre is a really positive step for both patients and the local community.
We recognise that communication is an important factor and will provide regular updates throughout the practice that ensures all patients are kept up to date with developments.
